About Tech Trek

Drop off your child at The ICM after school for a byte-sized adventure exploring the basics of coding, digital design, and tech-based careers! In this enrichment program, kids will create their own technology-based project from start to finish based on their interests.

Tech Trek goes “beyond the screen” to provide hands-on opportunities to learn. Build a robot and write simple code to help it navigate a maze. Create stop-motion characters and bring them to life. Watch items appear before your eyes in our 3D printer. We’ll use tools like Lego WeDo, Makey Makey invention kits, BeeBot programmable robots, and more to help children learn the basics of computer science and digital media literacy. Our “hands-on, minds-on” approach helps kids learn in many different content areas, with an emphasis on 21st Century skills like collaboration, communication, and creativity.

Skills we’ll explore: basic coding, program development, graphic design, video and photo editing, digital animation, internet safety

 

 

Schedule

Each session is 4 weeks long and meets on Monday and Wednesday afternoons from 3:30 to 5:30 pm.

Cost: $240 per session (sessions meet twice a week for four weeks)

Who This Program is For: Children in Grades 3-6.

Other Program Details

  • Class size is a maximum of 8 students.
  • Our learning environment will include exhibits at The Iowa Children’s Museum as well as our classroom space.
  • Caregivers are asked to bring reusable water bottle for their child each day. Snacks will not be provided.
  • Extended care (before 3:30 or after 5:30 PM) is not available at this time

  • Participants and staff will be required to wear a facial covering during all program activities.
  • Health screenings (with a temperature check) will be required for all participants and staff.
  • Sharing materials will be limited; every participant will be provided with their own supplies to complete facilitated activities.
  • Social distancing will be a priority and, when it is not possible, we will ensure facial coverings are used.

Refund Policy: Please contact us if you need to change your dates of registration. If you cancel your registration at least one week prior to the start of the session, we will refund your payment less a 5% credit card processing fee.
